Create Rain using Photoshop
This is a beginners Photoshop tutorial. If you are just new to Photoshop then you can add these cool effects to your photos!
STEP 1: Open Photoshop. Create a new document with 72 dpi as resolution settings. You can use any dimensions you like. Here as an example you can create a document of 500 x 381 pixels dimensions using 72 dpi as the resolution.
If you are going to print the document you must use higher dimensions like 2500 x 2500 pixels with 300 dpi resolution.
STEP 2: Now create a new layer and fill with black using paint bucket tool.
STEP 3: Now add noise using the following option, Go to Filter > Noise > Add Noise . Set the value as shown below.
STEP 4: Click on the adjustment layer icon at the bottom of the Layer panel and create a Levels adjustment layer. Set the following values.
STEP 5: Go back to the Filter menu and choose Blur >Motion Blur. Apply the following values.
You can experiment with various values in motion blur to check the different effects. However i have applied these values as shown below.
STEP 6: Change the blending mode of this layer to screen. Name this layer as Rain.
Scale the rain layer using CTRL-Transform.
STEP 7: Apply curves and set the following values. Make sure to apply clipping mask. To do this right click the curves layer and select “apply clipping mask”.
Clipping mask makes sure that the curves adjustment is applied only to rain layer and not to our forest image.
Here also the curves values depend on our background image to which we want to apply rain effects. However I have applied these values.
You have finished creating rain using Photoshop!
Now just add your image below this rain layer! Here I have added a forest image. Hope you enjoyed reading my tutorial!
You can see that I duplicated the rain layers thrice. I scaled 1 rain layer. I turned off the levels layers in the rain 2 and rain 2 copy layers. You can play with the values as I said before to create a natural rain effect to your photos.
